On Easter in a nation ready to surprise for its hidden riches
8 days to learn about Armenia’s culture and spirituality during the Easter season, visiting evocative places such as Yerevan, Garni, Geghard, Echmiadzin, Lake Sevan, Khor Virap and Noravank.
A young millennial nation. Among the inaccessible and isolated mountains of the Caucasus lies a small nation, but one that holds an invaluable heritage of history and culture. Armenia is a young country only officially (it gained independence in 1991) but actually has very ancient origins. It is certainly not an obvious or trivial destination, but those who decide to heed their curiosity and set out to discover it will be rewarded with one of the most surprising journeys one can undertake.
An Easter of discovery. Suffice it to say that Armenia was the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as its official religion, in 301 AD. This generated an intense spirituality in its people, who throughout their often troubled history jealously maintained their rituals and traditions. A heritage that has been passed down for generations, which we will have the privilege of learning about at a particularly heartfelt time of Christian Easter, surrounded by ancient monasteries and priceless relics.
Between mountains and flavors. The surprises in Armenia do not end there: this is a land that also knows how to provide incredible natural scenery, set as it is among wild and spectacular mountain ranges, sparsely inhabited and teeming with tradition. Armenia is also famous for its delicious cuisine, influenced by all the cultures it has come into contact with over the centuries, and for its wines: there is even a 6,000-year-old winery here. A unique journey, the kind that can truly change lives.
