Ice, Fire, and the Aurora

Geysers, glaciers, rushing waterfalls, glacial lagoons, and black sand beaches: Iceland is a place unlike any other in the world, and exploring it on New Year’s Eve is a truly unique experience. Six days in Reykjavík, Vatnajökull National Park, the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, Vík, and Thingvellir National Park, hoping to see the Northern Lights light up the sky on the last night of the year. The trip departs on December 29, 2026, and includes round-trip airfare and an Italian-speaking tour guide.

Program

  • Day 1 — Departure–Reykjavík: Arrival at Keflavík Airport, transfer to the hotel, and, depending on the schedule, a first stroll through the Icelandic capital. Dinner on your own. Fosshotel Reykjavík (or similar).
  • Day 2 — Reykjavík–Seljalandsfoss–Southeast Coast: along the Ring Road to the Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, then on to Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park. Dinner is included; if the sky is clear, the Northern Lights may be visible just a short walk from the hotel. Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon (or similar).
  • Day 3 — Fjallsárlón–Jökulsárlón–Southeast Coast: the small glacial lagoon at Fjallsárlón with its icebergs, followed by a walk along the famous “Diamond Beach” at Jökulsárlón. In the evening, a New Year’s Eve dinner followed by fireworks. Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon (or similar).
  • Day 4 — Eldhraun–Vík–Kvernufoss–Selfoss: the vast, moss-covered Eldhraun lava field; the black-sand beach and basalt formations of Vík í Mýrdal; the hidden Kvernufoss waterfall; and finally Selfoss, where we’ll have dinner. Hotel South Coast (or similar).
  • Day 5 — Golden Circle–Reykjavík: the classic itinerary featuring the Geysir geothermal area and Strokkur, Gullfoss Waterfall, a visit to a geothermal greenhouse with a tasting of traditional soup, and Thingvellir National Park, before ending in Reykjavík. Fosshotel Reykjavík (or similar).
  • Day 6 — Reykjavík–Return: Free time for shopping or exploring on your own, depending on your flight schedule, followed by a transfer to the airport for your return flight to Italy.

A 6-day, 5-night trip by Gran Turismo bus with pre-assigned seats, departing from Milan Malpensa, Rome Fiumicino, and Venice Marco Polo airports. Given the special nature of the date, the order of the visits may change even shortly before departure, though all visits scheduled in the program will still take place. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and there is no guarantee that you will be able to see them.
